3:17 a.m. last night my phone exploded with red alerts:
“Fall detected – Dad is on the floor – ambulance dispatched – I am with him.”
I live 400 km away.
By the time I was dressed, the Labrador Retriever Pro (the $149/month rolling table) had already:
- Rolled to my dad’s bedroom when it heard the thud
- Turned on all lights
- Brought his phone and medical alert bracelet
- Used its speaker to say “I’m here, John. Help is 4 minutes away. Stay calm.”
- Live-streamed everything to me and my sister
Paramedics found my dad conscious, talking to the robot like it was an old friend.
Doctor said: “If he’d hit his head and been alone another 10 minutes, we’d be having a different conversation.”
The robot stayed with him until sunrise, reminding him to sip water and playing his favorite Dean Martin songs.
Cost of the robot: $149/month
Cost of knowing my dad wasn’t alone on the floor in the dark: can’t put a price on it.

(Don’t wait. I almost did.)
